Catch Fire! America

By this time, Joel Weldon and crew had been writing and performing original worship songs almost out of pure necessity. Availability of youthful, contemporary worship songs was extremely limited and not very useful. "You can only do ëscratch, scratch-a-back, scratch-a-back-next-to-ya‰ a few times and you‰ll drain all the usefulness from it AND have a bunch of irritated backs in the crowd..." says Joel about songs of that era. "We needed songs that would focus on God and still have appeal in the music." Only You, Day By Day and He‰s Gonna Reign Forever had become so popular along the west coast that requests for recordings were exponential. Thus, Catch Fire! America (and the 'America Praise' series) was born.

To date selling more than any other project in Joel‰s catalog, this project tops the charts for popularity as an independent release. The songs began to appear on projects from Willow Creek Community Church, Saddleback Church, Young Life worship releases, Vineyard, and Maranatha Music. The song Lord Give Us America became a favorite at Promisekeepers and Harvest Crusades across the United States in the ë90s. Catch Fire! America has proven to be a landmark recording for the time. Recorded at Coyote Run Studios near Spokane, WA in the winter and spring of ë92.
