Along The Way

Notes from Joel:

I recently evaluated my life... where I've come from, where I am, and where I'm going. It occured to me that each adventure and trial I've experienced in my past has somehow worked to mold me. There were times when I cried out to God for help and didn't think He heard me or was even listening. I would be distracted by the immediate circumstance and not step back and see the big picture. We've all heard it said that hindsight is 20/20. So it is sometimes with seeing God work in us. We might have to wait until we can look back on things to see where God has been there every moment, every problem and situation. That's the idea behind this song. It's another story of sorts, but it's got a message that all of us need to remember...

Along The Way

Driving late one night eyes heavy from the road
The all night diner sign just drew me in
I took the stool right next to Elvis on the wall
A scene from Norman Rockwell made me grin

Two chairs down a gray haired man with overcoat and cane
Glanced at me with wisdom in his soul
He said, You're pushing hard my friend I see it in your eyes
Then he verbally unrolled me like a scroll

He said... No matter what may face you
No matter what may come
You can't worry 'bout the future
It belongs to only One

chorus
There'll be sunlight, there'll be rain
There'll be laughter there'll be pain
Every step along the way
There is Joy, there is sorrow
There's no guaranteed tomorrow
But one thing will forever be the same
He'll be there every step along the way

He struck a chord in me that rang out deep inside
The hour raced on by as time stood still
The worries I'd been carrying were left there on that day
Buried with my pride and selfish will

It was time to say goodbye and fare theewells
But I knew my heart had changed in me for good
Took one deep breath outside and held it for awhile
After all these years I finally understood

No matter what may face me
No matter what may come
I can't worry about the future
It belongs to only One

chorus
