Godly Man

Notes from Joel:

This song is a reflection of my own years growing up. My parents are wonderful Christians who demonstrated their faith in the way they lived. Their faithful love was a powerful thing in my life. At 19, I became a Christian with a dedicated heart to serve Jesus Christ, but not before giving them much grief that was truly rebellious and selfish. Godly Man is about that journey from unknowing to knowing, darkness to light...

Credits: Joel Weldon - Lead vocal, background vocals, guitars, bass, rhythm programming; Tom Mgrdichian - Keyboards; Dave Fenderson - Background vocals.

Recorded at our studio behind the Baskin-Robbins store in San Gabriel, CA in 1986. Originally released on Mistaken Identity (1986), Morada Records...

Godly Man

When I was only ten years old my daddy said to me
"Son try to be a God-fearing man with sincere integrity
I know you're young but for years I've prayed that soon you'll understand
The only good way to live your life is to be a godly man

chorus
A godly man sets his feet on the rock
And not upon sinking sand
He stands for truth and he stands for life
And he does all that he can
To be a godly man

Well eighteen came a bit too fast, my values pretty low
Too big for my britches trying to run a one man show
No one could tell me what to do or how to take a stand
And I couldn't care less if I ever learned to be a godly man

chorus

It's funny how the years roll by; some lessons they come slow
I've put some miles behind me now but I've a long, long way to go
But I know the one who loved me first and I know the God I serve
And there are so many things that I'm thankful for that I never will deserve

chorus
