I'll Miss You Harry

Notes from Joel:

This one was a personal tribute to a mentally handicapped man who became a friend of our family. He taught us about love in the simple things we often overlook. It's about the fact that God is no respector of persons and their desire to classify and compare. He looks upon the heart of every person and sees them for what they are...His creation, His children and HIS heart's desire. Harry was an inspiration to all of us that knew him with just a glimpse of the way God knows him.

I'll Miss You Harry

A cold Westerly wind signaled winter coming on
In the fall of '27 life began
To a young railroad man his wife had borne a son
He proudly held the baby in his hands
And soon with other children you frolicked as a boy
But you always seemed to be a step behind
Time revealed a difference designed by God's own choice
A simple love that few will ever find

chorus
If only we could see as you, so simple and so pure
Watch the seasons changing hue, knowing love endures
Smiling through the blue skies and the rain
I'll miss you, Harry
I'll miss you, Harry

Girls became young women and boys turned into men
But you would always have the mind set of a child
Whether caring for a kitten or the trusting of a friend
Your innocence stayed with you all the while
Though the world would tell you that you'd never measure up
You tried so hard to do the best you could
Frustration with your boundaries you couldn't do enough
Accept a lesser fate you never would

chorus

bridge
The kingdom of God belongs to such as these
His impartial love for innocence should bring me to my knees

A boy's gaze in a wrinkled face had run the course of time
All too soon we said our last goodbyes
On a cold December evening at the end of '89
The Father freed your soul and closed your eyes
You stand before the Master now Paradise is yours
and the answers to the lessons never learned
The pain you often felt over things not understood
Is gone forever never to return

chorus
