(When I Survey) The Wondrous Cross has been one of my all time favorite hymns since I was a kid...
even before I was a believer. I remember sitting in church and hearing my grandfather sing this song. It used to
shake the rafters when he'd belt it out in those little churches in Northern Minnesota. Later as a believer, I found the
real meaning of the song and the venerable verse that has inspired so many. At a moment I still remember in the studio,
I just began to sing from my heart an expression that caught in my throat. The words to this rendition were written there
and became very personal to me. We adapted this version to a powerful concert song that has moved the hearts of many
audiences. It's a holy moment for many when faced with the imagery of these words. God's sacrifice is incomprehensible to
us and I believe it's meant to be that way.
Recorded at Little Peach Studios, Spokane, WA in 1988 and released on Terror and Love(1988).

Survey
When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died
My richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride
For I was once a proud and foolish man
Never realized my need
But now I'm driven to my knees
Knowing that you died for me
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia
Your grace still covers me
